As your constituent, I urge you to join Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Teresa Leger Fernandez, Deborah Ross, Yassamin Ansari, Jim Costa, Madeleine Dean, Maxine Dexter, Debbie Dingell, Robert Garcia, Adelita Grijalva, Summer Lee, Stephen Lynch, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Sarah McBride, Gwen Moore, Lateefah Simon, Rashida Tlaib, Paul Tonko, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz as an original cosponsor of the Survivors’ Rights Restitution Act.
The Survivors’ Rights Restitution Act would compensate survivors of sexual violence whose victims' rights were violated by the federal government, including all the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's abuse. The bill would:
- Establish the Survivors' Rights Restitution Fund within the Department of the Treasury, funded by federal forfeiture proceeds tied to trafficking and sexual exploitation offenses, voluntary contributions, and authorized appropriations.
- Create an independent office of special adjudicators within the U.S. Court of Federal Claims to review petitions and determine awards for eligible survivors through a streamlined, non-adversarial, and trauma-informed process.
- Dispense financial compensation to eligible survivors through a new Survivors' Rights Restitution Program.
I strongly urge you to co-sponsor this important bill. Survivors deserve justice--both from their abusers and from the federal government in the event that survivor rights are violated.
