That's why we're telling websites including Etsy, BabyCenter, Tinder, and more:
Block mass surveillance tools like ShadowDragon's SocialNet and protect our data from mass surveillance!
A company called ShadowDragon is using its tools to pull personal information about us from hundreds of everyday websites like BabyCenter, Etsy, and Nextdoor and hand it over to government agencies.
ShadowDragon claims it is only using publicly available data, but the powerful tool is scraping information from across the internet, including (according to a leaked list) from websites that ban this form of mass data scraping. Just because data is “public” does not mean it can be mined, repackaged, and sold. If the leaked list is accurate, then ShadowDragon is likely ignoring certain website policies, and therefore able to pull massive amounts of data and create individual profiles full of pictures and personal information that can pinpoint data as sensitive as our exact locations – data that can be used as evidence against us.
