Tell U.S. pharmacies: Provide abortion care to your customers!
Tell U.S. pharmacies that the abortion medication mifepristone is still safe and FDA approved--and should be made available to everyone.
March 1, 2024: Breaking news! Walgreens and CVS to dispense abortion pills this month.
The New York Times reported today that two of the largest pharmaceutical providers--CVS and Walgreens--will start dispensing the abortion pill mifepristone in some stores this month.
But we still need to put pressure on the other major national pharmacy chains like Walmart, Target, Costco, and Rite Aid to follow the leadership of CVS and Walgreens and make the abortion pill accessible to their customers as soon as possible.

A handful of pharmacies across the country have started to dispense the abortion pill mifepristone in their states.1 But national pharmacy chains like Walgreens and CVS are still being slow to act in ensuring that mifepristone is available to anyone who needs it.

June 2023: This Saturday will mark one year since the conservatively stacked Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in the historic Dobbs decision, gutting access to abortion. As the ongoing legal fight to protect access to mifepristone--the safe and effective abortion pill--plays out, we must remind major U.S. pharmacies that they have a duty to ensure that the vital abortion pill is available to everyone.
March 2023: Earlier today, Walgreens publicly released a follow-up statement indicating that it would distribute mifepristone in all states where it legally can.
Why is this important?
Walgreens has said that its pharmacies will not dispense or mail abortion prescriptions in states where Republican attorneys general have threatened lawsuits--outrageously, including states where abortion is legal such as Kansas.
We must remember that the majority of voters support safe and legal abortion access. Voters in states such as Kansas, Kentucky and Montana overwhelmingly supported abortion rights in ballot measures last year.
We cannot let misogynistic Republicans in the pockets of anti-abortion extremists overturn the will of the people!
It's bad enough that the conservatively-stacked Supreme Court stripped us of our constitutional right to abortion. Now, Republicans are going after a safe, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved medication for early pregnancy abortion that's used in more than half of all abortions in the United States.
Abortion pills such as mifepristone have been FDA approved and safely used by customers for over 20 years.
Last month, the Biden administration approved retail pharmacies such as Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS to dispense the pills as part of a larger plan to protect abortion access and reduce maternal mortality.
Threats from Republican attorneys general to keep these pharmacies from dispensing the pills have chilling effects on multiple fronts. Not only are they putting customers' lives at risk, but they are also controlling private businesses, customers' lives, and our democracy.
Tell U.S. pharmacies to not give in to GOP bullying and fascism and to protect their customers' right to abortion care!
