For too long, whispers and warnings about Jared Leto's alleged serial sexual abuse and predatory behavior toward teenage girls have been an open secret in Hollywood.
Now, a BBC investigation has documented the accounts of 10 women who say they experienced sexual abuse by Leto as teenagers, adding to years of warnings about his disgusting pattern of grooming young fans, explicit communications with minors, coercive behavior, and sexual assault.
The survivors who came forward shared chilling accounts of the abuse they say they endured and the profound betrayal of trust they experienced as young fans. They showed incredible courage in coming forward. They deserve to be believed, supported, and protected.
Yet while these allegations mounted, Leto continued landing high-profile acting roles, toured the world with Thirty Seconds to Mars, and profited from his celebrity status. Hollywood treated these warnings as industry gossip instead of the urgent warning signs they were.
I call on Interscope Records, WME, Creative Artists Agency, the director and producers of Leto's upcoming film, Lunik Heist, and all companies doing business with Jared Leto to:
- Immediately end your professional relationship with Jared Leto.
- Stop rewarding and profiting from a celebrity facing numerous serious allegations of sexual abuse and predatory behavior of minors, and remove him from upcoming projects, endorsement campaigns, and partnerships.
- Send a clear message that no amount of fame, money, or power is more important than the safety of young people and accountability to survivors.
Please act promptly. Hollywood--and every other industry--can no longer look the other way when it comes to sexual abuse and predatory behavior. The era of the 'open secret' is over.
