Netflix: Cancel the Louis C.K. “Comeback”
The petition to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, Netflix Board of Directors, and other Netflix leadership reads:
We are writing to demand that Netflix immediately cancel its planned partnership with Louis C.K., including his upcoming comedy special and appearances tied to the Netflix Is a Joke festival.
Louis C.K. has been publicly accused of sexual misconduct and harassment by multiple women, including accounts of him masturbating in front of them or while on phone calls with them without consent — allegations he admitted were true. Despite this, Netflix is choosing to once again provide an admitted sexual abuser with a global platform, presumably just for profit. As a coalition of women, survivors, and allies, we are deeply disturbed.
By moving forward with this deal, Netflix is sending a message that abuse is not a barrier to success, and that money matters more than women’s lives. We urge you to stand with survivors — not abusers — by canceling this deal and committing to higher standards for who you choose to platform.
We are your customers, and we expect better.
Admitted serial abuser Louis C.K. is attempting another comeback — and Netflix is making it happen. The company has announced a new comedy special and major festival appearance with C.K., marking its first partnership with him since 2017.
Let’s be clear: Louis C.K. is a serial sexual abuser. He has been publicly accused of sexual misconduct and harassment by at least five women, including disturbing accounts of him masturbating in front of them or while on phone calls with them without consent — allegations he has admitted were true.
Right now, Netflix is choosing to elevate an admitted abuser instead of listening to the women he harmed — comedians themselves whose careers were impacted by their assaults. Why? For money. We are disgusted. But Netflix doesn’t operate in a vacuum. It answers to its customers, and if enough of us speak out, we can force the company to change course and send a clear message: survivors matter more than profits.
