Tell Netflix: Be in solidarity with survivors
The petition to Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, reads:
Netflix must remove Russell Brand's specials, movies, and other content from its streaming services globally. Netflix has a long and horrible history of platforming rapists and misogynists. From Louis C.K. to Dave Chapelle, and now Russell Brand, Netflix has shown us time and time again that it prioritizes profit and abuse over women, survivors and their customers. It's time for Netflix to change!
Why is this important?
You might have heard about sexual assault accusations against Russell Brand, the British comedian and podcaster. Four women have courageously come forward to share their stories of assault and rape by Brand.
As a result of these survivors' bravery, YouTube made the right decision to suspend Brand's ability to make money on the platform. The BBC and Paramount+ have even taken down his specials and other video content from streaming.
But, Netflix, the biggest streaming service in the world, still refuses to take down Brand's specials as well as movies and TV shows featuring the comedian. We're not going to accept this disrespectful behavior by Netflix. Survivors, customers, and investors deserve better!
Netflix ought to follow British and U.S. media and pull Brand's content from its streaming services in the U.S. and across the world. In continuing to give his specials and other rapist-comedians' video content airtime, Netflix is saying that survivors' lives and stories don't matter.
Take action and sign on now to demand Netflix remove Russell Brand's content!
