Tell Kroger: Stop your Black Lives Matter Hypocrisy!
Tell Kroger:
Stop the hypocrisy. Stop exploiting Black workers.
Why is this important?
Last week, Kroger--owner of the nation's largest supermarket chains including Harris Teeter, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, and more--posted videos and images on social media in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and affirming support for Black employees.
But those words mean nothing when employees at Kroger stores are literally banned from wearing masks that declare that Black Lives Matter. And those words mean nothing when Kroger employees, a large portion of whom are women of color working through the pandemic, will lose their $2 an hour hero pay this month even as COVID-19 cases are climbing across the country.
We know the pandemic is far from over and that women, and especially women of color, are disproportionately affected and make up a majority of essential workers. Kroger's grocery workers have been showing up at great risk to themselves while Kroger's CEO takes home a $21 million salary and gets to stay home. It is unconscionable that a corporation declare support for Black lives while actively harming its Black employees.
Will you sign this petition demanding that Kroger allow workers to express their support of Black lives freely and that it listen to essential workers demanding dignity amid the coronavirus pandemic?
