We need Congress to rein in ICE!

The petition to House Oversight Committee members reads:

Investigate the crisis of abuse, harassment and murders carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Hold the agency and its agents accountable for their crimes.

If you’re shaking with anger, we see you. 

We just witnessed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) murder Renee Nicole Good in cold blood. The video evidence is clear. She, like so many of us, was a mother who cared about her community. She was shielding her neighbors from ICE activity when she was fatally shot by a masked ICE agent. Now, Trump and his MAGA cronies are flat out lying and attacking her character to justify ICE’s illegal actions. We can’t let this stand.

She could have been any one of us. She was one of us

As a community of mostly women, many of whom have worked to hold ICE accountable, Good’s murder hits close to home. In our calls with UltraViolet community members, we learned that a majority of you are extremely active, if not leading mutual aid, community care and resistance efforts in your cities on top of being working Moms and caregivers. Women like you are and have always led social justice movements. We show up even when we’re exhausted—no matter what. Good was like us. Let’s show up for her now and all the people ICE has violently attacked.

The House Oversight Committee has the power to investigate and hold accountable federal law enforcement agencies. In fact, hours after Good was shot and killed by ICE, House Oversight Committee member Representative Ayanna Pressley motioned to subpoena all the evidence and footage from Good’s murder, but her motion was quickly blocked by Republicans. We need to back her up and show Congress that a majority of Americans want ICE off our streets and justice for all of the people the agency has attacked and killed.
