You should know that volunteers are checking GoFundMe every day to keep track of the fundraisers supporting killer ICE agents. When we recently checked, we found more than 25 pages raising money for Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who killed Renee Good, and Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez, the agents who killed Alex Pretti. Continuing to platform these fundraisers isn't just ethically and morally wrong, it also goes against your own policies, specifically sections 8.8 and 8.10 in your terms of service.
We also know that GoFundMe takes about 3% of every donation on the platform, which means that you’re not only “helping people help killers,” you’re also profiting from the violence. Consumers and customers are watching, and we are appalled that the company is platforming both fundraisers that support ICE agents and the people and families they’ve attacked or killed, essentially double-dipping to increase your profits while our communities suffer. This does not look good for a company with such an altruistic mission.
The Hennepin County coroner's office deemed Good’s and Pretti’s deaths as homicide, which means that Ross, Ochoa and Gutierrez are more likely to face investigations for their violent actions.
For these reasons, we urge the company to take down all fundraisers for killer ICE agents and ban them from the platform for good. GoFundMe's terms of service 8.8 and 8.10 give you the power to take action.
We urge you to be on the right side of history, show us that you can be trusted to enforce your own policies and act according to your company’s mission. By keeping these fundraisers active, the company is not “helping people help each other,” it's “helping people help killers,” and making a huge profit in the process.
