The most shared fake health news story of 2016 wasn't from the Russians--it was an article published by anti-abortion extremists attempting to turn readers against abortion rights. The article falsely claims that an abortion is never medically necessary to save a woman's life, and it was liked and shared by 1.1 million people.
Recently, under public pressure, Facebook agreed in front of Congress to investigate and stop fake election stories paid for by Russia. But millions of people on Facebook see fake news articles from prominent anti-abortion blogs like LifeSiteNews--articles that claim abortion is linked to breast cancer (lie), causes premature birth (another lie), or can be "reversed" (more lies).
If we push Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg right now, while they're still facing major scrutiny over fake election news, we can get them to stop fake news stories about reproductive health, too. Will you sign the petition to Facebook?
