Tell the Department of Justice to drop all charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver!

The petition to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi reads:

Representative LaMonica McIver had every right to visit the Delaney Hall detention facility in New Jersey. She shouldn't be charged with a crime for simply doing her job. Drop all criminal charges against her immediately.

Earlier this month, Representative LaMonica McIver of New Jersey was part of a contingency of elected officials who visited an immigration detention facility in her district but weren't permitted in. They were blocked from entering by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, who arrested at least two of the officials: Rep. McIver and Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka.

Now, Donald Trump's Department of Justice has charged Rep. McIver with assaulting the ICE officers.

No administration--even under Jim Crow--has federally charged a lawmaker for anything other than fraud or corruption. The arrest and charges against Rep. McIver are nothing short of outrageous.
