President Biden has announced the first Black woman nominee to the Supreme Court, D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. The Senate must now move quickly to confirm her to the Supreme Court.
Why is this important?
Judge Jackson's nomination is a monumental step toward the anti-racist, feminist future we have long dreamed of and fought for. Now, we must fight to get her nomination approved by the Senate.
Judge Jackson is tremendously qualified. She will not only make history as the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, but she will also be the first former public defender to serve on the Court. And she has a proven track record of attracting bipartisan support in the Senate. She’s been confirmed three times on a bipartisan vote.
Judge Jackson, and all Black women, deserve to be judged by their relevant qualifications, and not through sexist and racist tropes and political grandstanding.
