The petition to the Federal Trade Commission reads:

A handful of companies should not have control over the functioning of nearly the entire internet. The Federal Trade Commission must act now before the next catastrophe. That's why we’re calling on you to investigate the AWS outage and determine how to protect us in the future!

On October 20, 2025, the world discovered in real time the dangers of allowing Amazon to control so much of the internet when its Amazon Web Services went dark for nearly 15 hours. Every day, technology that we depend on--from Slack to Ring doorbells and even smart beds--malfunctioned. The blackout didn’t just inconvenience our lives but put us in danger.
