Tell Spotify: Remove ICE ads
The petition to Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and Co-Founder Martin Lorentzon reads:
Remove Spotify ads recruiting for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immediately. Recruitment ads for ICE clearly violate Spotify’s Advertising Policies and make Spotify a hostile platform for users.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is continuing to promote and inflict violence across our country; already, it’s the deadliest year for people in ICE custody in decades. And official government data shows that immigrants without a criminal record are now the largest group in immigration detention. In addition to being cruel, many of ICE’s tactics are unlawful, discriminatory and even contradictory. ICE is now detaining pregnant people and nursing mothers, a practice long prohibited by its own policies.
It’s confusing, then, that music streaming platform Spotify is allowing ICE to run recruitment ads on its platform. These ads violate the platform's policies against promoting violence, behaviors that put people at risk of harm, and harmful and unlawful content.
Already, the Spotify boycott is ramping up, and we need to keep the momentum going.
