Tell Facebook: Sheryl Sandberg must resign immediately!
Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg presents herself as a champion of women, telling them to "lean in."
But her actions suggest otherwise. Sandberg is under investigation at Meta, formerly known as Facebook, Inc., for intimidating journalists into nixing a story about her former boyfriend, Activision Blizzard Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick.
When Sandberg began dating Kotick in 2016, the UK-based publication the Daily Mail, attempted to report on how Kotick had a restraining order in place from an ex-girlfriend. Sandberg used her considerable influence at Facebook to force the Mail not to run the story.
Why is this important?
As gender-based violence survivors and advocates for women, we are heartbroken and outraged. Back in 2012, UltraViolet encouraged Facebook to put Sandberg on its board of directors, and wow, has she let us down.
Sandberg has been telling women workers to lean in while she uses her own power and influence to cover up anything that might be damaging to her "brand." The fact that Sandberg used her power to silence women and protect her own image says all you need to know about her values and priorities.
Under her watch, Sandberg has allowed for Facebook to fester into a right-wing playground where misogyny, racism, disinformation, violent organizing, and hateful conspiracy theories grow and spread. For years, Sandberg has been in an optimal position to make Facebook safer for women, but like CEO Mark Zuckerberg, she has consistently failed to take action.
We're done. Sheryl Sandberg has got to go. Add your name to the petition to Meta that Sheryl Sandberg must resign immediately!
