As early as Tuesday, November 19, the House of Representatives could vote on dangerous and unconstitutional legislation that would give the incoming Trump administration the power to unilaterally shut down any nonprofit organization it disagrees with.

Under this bill, the Trump-chosen treasury secretary would be able to strip any organization of its nonprofit status--without due process.

H.R.9495, known as The Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, is intentionally misleading: The bill is framed around a provision that offers tax relief to Americans held hostage abroad, but it was really designed to allow the treasury secretary to designate any nonprofit as a "terrorist supporting organization" and revoke its tax-exempt status.

The bill is fundamentally anti-free speech and, if passed, would serve as a tool for unfettered censorship against any organization that questions Trump and his administration--including UltraViolet and other gender justice groups.
