Tell The Masonic to drop accused sexual predator Danny Elfman

The petition to The Masonic in San Francisco reads:

As a California resident, I am deeply disappointed that The Masonic has invited Danny Elfman to perform on October 2 and 3 this year. Elfman has been credibly accused of sexual misconduct by at least two women who are still waiting for accountability. I urge you to revoke Elfman's invitation to perform and cut all ties with him. 

At a time when the classical music industry is facing a reckoning, led by several survivor musicians who recently came forward with harrowing stories of workplace sexual violence, The Masonic has the opportunity to set a new standard.  

I urge you to prioritize workplace safety by refusing to give a platform to anyone in the music industry with a record of harassing or abusing women, including Danny Elfman. Sever all ties with him now.

Danny Elfman is a HUGE household name. He's the composer behind iconic soundtracks such as The Simpsons, Beetlejuice, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. He's also a credibly accused sexual predator. 

Just this past May, a California Court of Appeals ruled that a defamation suit filed against Elfman over his sexual misconduct denials had enough merit to move forward and could not be dismissed. The survivor in that case, musical composer Nomi Abadi, had previously accused Elfman of sexual harassment and misconduct, including masturbating in her presence, answering the door in a bathrobe that showed his penis, and asking her to send nude photographs of herself. 

In 2018, as the #MeToo movement took off, Elfman agreed to pay Abadi $830,000 in exchange for her silence and had her sign a nondisclosure agreement. But in 2023, Abadi sued Elfman, saying he hadn't paid up.

In a separate case eerily mirroring Abadi's, a Jane Doe in Maryland alleged that Elfman also sexually abused her from 1997 to 2002, beginning when she was just 21-years-old. The survivor said that when she and Elfman were alone together, he would remove all of his clothing and walk around naked, exposing his genitals. She said that Elfman would tell her that this was the only way he could "work, be creative, and successful."

We need more women composers and musicians, not misogynists who parade around as so-called "creative geniuses" while harassing their coworkers and creating toxic and dangerous work environments. Elfman is not above accountability. Tell The Masonic to drop him immediately!
