Last week, a Black woman and former NFL trainer, Britany Taylor filed a lawsuit accusing New England Patriot player Antonio Brown of brutally raping her. Patriot execs–who have a history of not protecting women, especially Black women–have done nothing to hold Brown accountable. But the NFL has the power to trump the Patriot’s leadership, and step in to ensure Black women and other women like Britany are protected when working in the League.
Just last month, the NFL signed a controversial deal with famous rapper, Sean ‘Jay Z’ Carter to launch an initiative focused on ensuring justice for Black people.1 But by failing to respond to Britany’s sexual assault case, it sends a clear message that the only lives that truly matter are that of men--even within Black and other marginalized communities.
Sexual assault is a serious crime, and if found guilty, abusers like Brown have no place in the league. Take action to #ProtectBlackWomen and other women from sexual assault in the NFL!
