Tell Virginia AG Miyares: Defend our care! Join the lawsuit to stop MAGA from defunding Planned Parenthood.
The petition to Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares reads:
As your constituents, we are calling on you to defend our access to affordable health care and protect our reproductive rights. Planned Parenthood clinics in Virginia provide essential care, including annual wellness exams, cancer screenings, and a range of preventive health care services to hundreds of thousands of Virginians. President Trump’s attempt to defund Planned Parenthood nationwide is having a ripple effect on the rising cost of health care in our state, and we urge you as our advocate to join the 23 other state attorneys general suing the administration to stop them from defunding Planned Parenthood, which will inevitably make costs soar and care even harder to access for Virginians.
When the Republican-led Congress passed Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July, they included a provision that said reproductive health care providers that offer abortion care can’t accept Medicaid payments for other medical care they provide. This provision was drafted with a specific target and end goal in mind: defunding Planned Parenthood and thereby further quashing access not just to abortion but to preventive sexual and reproductive health care for women and gender-expansive people across the country.
A coalition of 23 state attorneys general filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing that the provision was unconstitutional and that it amounted to a backdoor national abortion ban. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has refused to join the lawsuit to defend our right to affordable reproductive health care. That’s because Attorney General Miyares’ loyalties lie with MAGA extremists and his corporate donors, not with his constituents in Virginia.
Planned Parenthood operates hundreds of health care centers nationwide and provides a wide range of services, including abortions in the states where abortion has not been banned, birth control, cancer screenings, and testing for and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The nonprofit health care provider has been forced to close many of its clinics--even in states where abortion is still legal--because of all the budget cuts and targeted attacks. These closings are having a ripple effect on all health care providers, making costs soar and care even harder to access.
Yet AG Miyares would rather spend his time bullying trans schoolkids while he ignores Virginians’ real concerns about the rising cost of health care, Trump’s cruel campaign against immigrants, the MAGA attacks on our education system, the massive federal layoffs and funding freezes that have hit our state the hardest, and the ongoing threat to our reproductive rights. Tell AG Miyares that Virginians need a true advocate, not a rubber stamp for the MAGA polices that are hurting our state. Fill out the form to urge Attorney General Miyares to join the 23 state attorneys general suing to block the Trump regime from defunding Planned Parenthood and gutting our access to affordable health care.
