CNN's decision to provide Trump with a platform is dangerous. Not only did Trump play a central role in the January 6 insurrectionist attack on the U.S. Capitol, but also he is currently standing trial for sexual assault. More than 20 women have accused him of rape.

His numerous indictments and penchant to peddle disinformation should automatically disqualify him from receiving any airtime from CNN. Even if he is likely to be the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, it's a bad idea for CNN to air his views without a clear plan to contain and fact-check him. Doing so puts our democracy at risk and legitimizes a hate monger who has no respect for our constitution or the rule of law.

CNN has proven unable or unwilling to check Trump's disinformation in the past. It's fair to suspect that the television news network will fail to do so again next week.

Make no mistake: CNN's decision to platform Trump--nearly a full year before the GOP primary even begins--isn't about the network promoting fairness or democracy. It's clearly a craven rush for ad dollars--all while subverting our democracy.
