Tell CNN: Fire analyst Scott Jennings for Islamophobic attacks!
The petition to CNN reads:
Islamophobia has no place in our public discourse. Fire conservative analyst Scott Jennings for his Islamophobic comments against Representative Ilhan Omar.
Why is this important?
At a time when women of color leaders are facing unprecedented levels of racist attacks and violent threats, CNN is platforming Islamophobes and their hate. Most recently, the news network aired a disturbing interview with conservative analyst Scott Jennings, in which he called US Representative Ilhan Omar a "public relations agent for Hamas."
Sadly, this isn't the first time that Jennings has made wildly inappropriate comments on CNN, or that CNN has aired racist content. Just five months ago, Jennings used a raunchy, sexualized joke to describe the GOP's internal battle for House speaker.
Almost a year ago, the UltraViolet community helped oust CNN's CEO Chris Licht for allowing Donald Trump to hold his own presidential town hall, in which he spewed similar racist and xenophobic tropes and disinformation to incite violence among his supporters.
Black women, more than any other political candidates and leaders, face numerous barriers to entry. Studies have shown that Black women face both sexist and racist attacks--including death threats--that hamper their candidacies and ability to thrive on the job.
In this day and age, we have yet to have a Black woman governor, and only two have been senators. National news networks like CNN, that platform bigots like Jennings, only fuel these regressive trends and hate.
We won't let CNN off the hook. Sign the petition to tell CNN to fire conservative analyst Scott Jennings for his Islamophobic comments against Representative Ilhan Omar!
