Tell CNN: Stop platforming abortion disinformation
The petition to CNN reads:
Stop allowing abortion misinformation and disinformation to spread. Fact-check all presidential debates and stop platforming lies that harm women and pregnant people, and their families.
Why is this important?
We are still reeling from the misinformation, disinformation, and outright lies about abortion that flew back and forth in last night's presidential debate. CNN, which hosted the debate, gave the candidates free reign to spew toxic and confusing claims about exceptions to state and federal bans, abortions later in pregnancy, and "abortions after birth"--a delusional term concocted by GOP radicals.
CNN's Dana Bash and Jake Tapper sat quietly as former President Donald Trump created a tale of a fantasy world where "every single legal scholar" supports draconian abortion bans and newborns are executed by monstrous doctors. But the actual horror show--one that we witness in real life, every single day--is the reality that Trump created by packing the Supreme Court. It's on the news, in our group chats, and at our kitchen tables.
Here are the facts: MAGA Republicans support abortion bans with no exceptions; less than 1% of abortions happen later in pregnancy, mostly due to tragic diagnoses; there is NO. SUCH. THING as "abortion after birth." It doesn't exist! But viewers of last night's debate didn't get the facts.
