To my House Representative,

As a constituent, I am writing to urge you to vote YES on the DEFIANCE Act. This bill would finally give survivors of deepfake abuse a path to justice.

I’m deeply concerned about the rise of nonconsensual deepfake pornography, particularly in the wake of the Grok-enabled sexual deepfake spree that is estimated to have impacted millions of people--primarily women and children.

Digital violence is sexual violence, not to mention that child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is outright illegal. Survivors as young as 11 are being targeted and anyone with a public online image can be victimized without recourse. Passing legislation to give victims a federal civil right of action is long overdue and, at this point, absolutely critical for public safety.

That’s why I was thrilled to hear the news that the DEFIANCE Act passed the Senate on January 13th. And that’s why I’m urging you now  to vote in favor of this important bill and do everything in your power to encourage your fellow House members to do the same. Passing DEFIANCE would bring us one step closer to finally having a federal law in place aimed at holding creators of these harmful deepfakes accountable.

SEND A LETTER NOW: Tell your House Rep to pass the DEFIANCE Act

Write to your House Representatives to demand that they pass the DEFIANCE Act to urgently address the sexual deepfake epidemic.

A couple of weeks ago, the Senate voted unanimously to pass the DEFIANCE Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at combating deepfake abuse. Now, we need to do everything in our power to make sure it gets through the House.

DEFIANCE would finally establish a civil right of action for victims of AI-generated explicit images and videos (also known as deepfake pornography) to seek justice against those who create, share, publish, or solicit the harmful material. But this will only happen if we can get the bill through the House–which we weren’t able to achieve last year.

This year is different. In fact, a vote on this bill could not come at a more crucial moment. From late December to mid-January, Elon Musk’s Grok AI went on a mass undressing spree, generating an estimated 3 million sexualized images of real people, including minors, without their consent. This was arguably the largest wave of mass sexual abuse in history.
