Hello, my name is [NAME]. I'm calling to express to Executive Editor Matt Murray how upset I am that The Washington Post fired opinion columnist Karen Attiah, and to demand her immediate rehiring.
As a longtime reader [OR SUBSCRIBER] of The Washington Post, I'm watching with shock as the newspaper slides into serious political bias, compromising its integrity.
Opinion columnists are quite literally hired to share their opinions, and they should be allowed to do so freely, without fear of retribution. Attiah's firing was very obviously politically motivated.
The Washington Post firing Attiah is part of a larger and growing trend of women--and particularly women of color--being pushed out of the public sphere and places of leadership. Women have only recently been included in those leadership positions, and now our country is seriously digressing.
As you know, major newsrooms shape our discourse and history. It's frightening to consider what our country will become and how it will be remembered without prominent voices like Attiah's.
Matt Murray: I demand that The Washington Post rehire Attiah immediately. Disney and ABC realized their mistake in firing Jimmy Kimmel and rehired him; The Washington Post must do the same for Attiah. The world is watching, and waiting.
Thank you.
Momentum is growing to demand that The Washington Post immediately rehire Karen Attiah, a Black woman opinion columnist who was fired for quoting Charlie Kirk's own words. Already, our coalition has collected and delivered a whopping 60,000 signatures to the newspaper, calling out its leadership's decision and demanding Attiah's rehiring.
Now, it's time to up the ante to make it impossible for Jeff Bezos and Washington Post leadership to sweep this under the rug. That's why we're flooding The Washington Post Executive Editor Matt Murray's line with calls.
