Tell Congress: Block the SAVE Act to protect democracy

MAGA Republicans like to make wild claims about voter fraud, but they are all unsubstantiated. Voter fraud does not exist in statistically relevant numbers in the U.S., and yet they continue to use it to justify their attempts to disenfranchise voters.

The so-called Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act could be up for a full floor vote as early as this week.

If passed, the SAVE Act would effectively ban people from registering to vote online or by mail by requiring that all U.S. citizens present a passport or birth certificate that matches their current legal name--not just to register to vote but even to make an address change or update their voter registration.

These baseless barriers would make voting harder for young people, people of color, people with disabilities, transgender people, people with low incomes, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of climate disasters, and military families, not to mention the TENS of MILLIONS of married women who have changed their names and/or cannot afford to purchase a passport or new birth certificate or live in an area where it’s convenient to do so.

Can you make a call to your House member and urge them to block this racist, sexist, and ableist voter suppression bill? Just have your cellphone handy and fill out the form or call directly at 1-888-879-2059. We’ve prepared a sample script that you are welcome to use.

    Call Script

It's best to speak in your own words, but here are some points to get you started.

“Hi, my name is [Your Name]. I live in [Your City], and I am a constituent of [Your U.S. House Representative]. I’m calling to urge them to vote NO on H.R.22, the so-called SAVE Act, and all other legislation that makes it harder for U.S. citizens to vote.

“This baseless voter suppression bill would create unnecessary barriers to voting for people of color, young people, disabled people, transgender people, people with low incomes, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural and climate disasters, and military families, not to mention the TENS of MILLIONS of married women who have changed their names.

“As your constituent, I urge you to protect our voting rights and block the SAVE Act.

“A yes vote on this bill is a vote in favor of a poll tax and against democracy. Thank you for your time.”
