We confronted Trump at the U.S. Women's Open

Donald Trump is a sexual predator, but the U.S. Golf Association still decided to host the most prestigious women's golf tournament at Trump's golf course in Bedminster, N.J. On behalf of more than 100,000 UltraViolet members who've been pushing the U.S. Golf Association to move the 2017 Women's Open from Trump's Bedminster golf course, we protested at the event.

He saw us, and he was mad.

Here's how it went down:

First, more than 30 UltraViolet members and allies held a rally outside of the golf resort. Then, we set up a motorcade--with cars that had signs like "This is a sexual predator's golf course"--that drove along the path audiences used to head to the Women's Open. We were followed by a truck that read Trump's infamous Access Hollywood quote, "I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything".
Next, a handful of those UltraViolet members went inside the golf course, waited until Trump showed up, and--right in front of him and tons of press--silently took off top shirts to reveal purple shirts that read "USGA: Dump Sexist Trump."

UltraViolet members proved once again there must be a cost to sexism. We will not stand by as a sexual predator is normalized and rewarded. Here is what UltraViolet members did months prior to make this protest possible:

  • Over 100,000 UltraViolet members signed a petition urging the U.S. Golf Association (USGA) and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) to move the 2017 U.S. Women's Open tournament from Donald Trump's golf course.
  • UltraViolet held a protest at the LPGA Bank of Hope Founder’s Cup in March calling on the LPGA to “Dump Trump.”
  • In addition to the protest, UltraViolet commissioned the first “Air UltraViolet” flight over the LPGA Bank of Hope Founders Cup. The plane banner read: “LPGA: TAKE A MULLIGAN. DUMP SEXIST TRUMP
  • More than 1,700 UltraViolet members called the USGA and LPGA to demand they commit to moving all future women's tournaments out of Trump property
  • The second “Air UltraViolet” flight went over the ANA Inspiration Women in Sports Cup in California. The plane banner read: "USGA & LPGA: DUMP TRUMP. @ULTRAVIOLET."
  • Civil rights groups and women’s groups, including Color of Change and NARAL Pro-Choice America, teamed up with UltraViolet in a letter to the LPGA and USGA outlining the problematic nature of hosting tournaments at Trump golf courses.

Here are a few of the best stories covering this protest:

Because of UltraViolet members, hundreds of thousands of people were reminded that associating with Trump is an endorsement of his behavior. Neither Trump nor the USGA should get away with their actions in the public eye, so UltraViolet members made sure they didn't. And none of this would have been possible without thousands of UltraViolet members teaming together to take action.
