As of today, 45 U.S. states, including the progressive state of New York, still allow child marriages. In almost 90% of these cases, girls under the age of 18 are married off to adult men.

Naila Amin, pictured on the left, was married at 13 to a cousin 13 years her senior. The man would rape her, and she frequently ran away.

But even group homes were reluctant to take her in since she had marital status. In actuality, she was a child, who was barely entitled to any legal rights, including a divorce.
