    To the U.S. Olympic Committee:

We are survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones writing to demand accountability for anyone who knew about Larry Nassar's serial abuse and did nothing, starting with U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) CEO Scott Blackmun. We write you today, as the Olympics are about to begin, because we believe you have let down survivors.

We have been deeply saddened and outraged to watch the news unfold that Larry Nassar abused at least 265 women and girls over decades under the guise of medical treatment. And there continue to be reports of rampant abuse going unanswered in other Olympic sports. It was even more upsetting to learn about the failure of multiple institutions, including the USOC, to believe survivors and take action to protect them. We can only assume there are more survivors, in other Olympic sports supported by the USOC, suffering in silence.

Reports now show the USOC knew about Nassar's abuse for at least a year, but took no steps to stop him until the story broke publicly in 2016. The USOC has since called for all members of the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors to resign, but it's past time to consider its own role in the abuse of so many women and girls.

It’s unconscionable and unacceptable that no one has been held accountable at the USOC.

As people around the world gather tonight to celebrate our athletes, we will also be haunted by the thought that the USOC is failing to protect them. We implore you to act now to hold all abusers and enablers accountable. Accountability must start at the top which is why Mr. Blackmun must go.

    Sincerely,
Sexual assault survivors and their loved ones
