An Indiana woman, Purvi Patel, was just sentenced to 41 years. Her crime? She suffered a stillbirth and the state suspected--but had no physical evidence--that she tried to induce an abortion.

This case is one example of a scary trend across states where politicians obsessed with banning abortion are playing doctor and criminalizing pregnant women. Laws like Indiana's are throwing HUNDREDS of women in jail for suffering miscarriages and stillbirths--including those caused by incidents like falling down the stairs. All the while, states like Indiana are closing abortion clinics and making reproductive care harder to access for women. Purvi Patel’s conviction sets a dangerous precedent. If it's not challenged, we could see states throwing women in jail without any proof that they did anything wrong.

Purvi plans to appeal within 30 days, and the court could overturn this wrongful conviction. If we all speak up, we can draw public attention to her appeal and make sure she gets a fair chance. No woman should have to fear arrest for suffering a stillbirth, miscarriage, or choosing to have an abortion.  Will you sign a petition calling on the Indiana Court of Appeals to overturn Purvi Patel's conviction?
