Renisha's killer was charged--now we need justice!

Tell Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy:

"Thank you for charging Renisha McBride's killer with murder. Stand Your Ground or self-defense should never be used to justify the killing of an unarmed woman who posed no threat. We're counting on you to get justice for Renisha and her family."

Last Saturday, Renisha McBride got stranded after a car accident in a suburb of Detroit and knocked on a door, seeking help. Instead of assisting her, the owner of the house fatally shot Renisha in the head through a locked screen door with an illegal firearm.

After a 2-week outcry from the nearly 60,000 UltraViolet members who joined the Detroit NAACP, Color of Change, and other groups in demanding justice, Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Renisha's killer with murder.

But our work isn't done. We know from past cases like Trayvon Martin's that Stand Your Ground laws can lead to killers getting away with the murder if they think someone looks "threatening," and Renisha's killer is claiming "self-defense" even though he shot Renisha through a locked screen door.

Can you thank Prosector Kym Worthy for charging Renisha's murderer and let her know we're counting on her to deliver strong prosecution to get justice for Renisha and her family?
