State violence against Black women

Last month, Korryn Gaines was in her home, holding her 5-year-old son in her lap, when she was killed by police and her son shot in the leg. Police came to her home to arrest her for traffic violations.

This week, prosecutors announced they won't file charges against the officers involved in Gaines' death--despite acknowledging that the officers' account of her death didn't add up.

We need to remember to demand justice for Black women like Gaines, whose deaths rarely make national news.

Black women and men's lives are in a state of emergency. We can stop it by building the people power needed to force real change. But to do that, people need to know what state violence against Black lives really looks like.
