19-year-old Lara* didn't want to file a report after her sister's fiancé raped her, but the police forced her to. Then they botched the entire investigation.
Despite a rape kit that indicated sexual assault had occurred, and her statement that he had threatened her with a gun, the only evidence the detectives considered was a video supplied by the rapist himself. The recording showed the rape, including him saying, "Don't be shy. We're gonna get this over with." But the police concluded the rape was consensual because she didn't physically fight back.
Lara's story is now making headlines because her rapist is on trial for the murder of his one-year-old son. The police chief is standing by his detectives' actions, and so far, the officers have faced ZERO disciplinary actions--in fact, they have been promoted. Something like this should never happen again. Will you add your name?
