Marichuy, a transgender woman in an Arizona ICE detention center was raped by her cellmate. When she reported it, officials told her to pretend it was consensual.
Now she remains in the same detention center--and the same cell--as her rapist.

Although she spent most of her life in Arizona, Marichuy was born in Mexico, and is being detained as an undocumented immigrant. The detention officers have repeatedly ignored her reports of harassment and bullying. And when she reported her rape, they demanded she sign a statement saying it was consensual.

No one should have to endure bullying, harassment, and assault. Reporting it takes courage, and that should be met with support--not denial. The Department of Homeland Security has jeopardized Marichuy's physical and emotional safety. To make it right, they must release her so she can recover and heal with her family.
