Cee Lo Green has issued an apology to fans over his controversial rape comments.
“I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter,” the 40-year-old singer wrote, not quite admitting he wrote the tweets in question.
“Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.”
Green reportedly issued a series of tweets before deleting them Sunday saying that a woman can only be a rape victim if they are conscious.
“When someone brakes on a home there is broken glass,” he reportedly wrote. “Where is your plausible proof anyone was raped?”
“Women who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH implies consent.”
Green shortly deleted his account after the rant and reactivated it again Tuesday.
The alleged tweets from the former “Voice” judge came just two days after he pleaded no contest to slipping ecstasy to a woman in 2012.
He was sentenced to three years of probation and 360 hours of community service for the felony drug conviction but not for sexual assault, since allegedly there was lack of evidence to the woman’s claim that their encounter was not consensual.
Green’s TBS series “The Good Life” was also canceled Tuesday after one season, Deadline reported.
Anti-sexism group Ultraviolet had started a petition to get Green’s series off the air. It is still unknown if that or the controversial tweets had anything to do with the network’s decision to give the show the boot.
